Using PowerPoint for Presentations

For many top producers the first step in designing a powerful client meeting strategy is to embrace presentation software and by far the most popular presentation software in the world is PowerPoint by Microsoft (www.microsoft.com). One of the advantages of building a presentation using PowerPoint is that you can create a visually appealing, step by step discussion of what it will take to successfully market a seller’s home which you can then modify, customize, and adapt to any situation within just a few minutes. Change a photo, add a web file, update statistics you can do it all with just the click of your mouse (even while sitting in a sellers driveway.) Check out how many top producers use PowerPoint to enhance their presentation skills:

Five Ways Top Producers Use PowerPoint

1) On a Laptop ‘ PowerPoint comes with a slideshow feature which allows users to advance slides as they are talking about each point in their presentation. In addition users can link slides to audio, and video files, as well as web pages.

2) As a Projected Image ‘ Using a compact LCD projector many agents use their PowerPoint presentation as a projected image on a conference room screen, white wall, or even at the seller’s home. To see a catalog of projectors check out www.infocus.com, or www.boxlight.com.

3) As a Printed Presentation ‘ For their low tech customers many agents print out their PowerPoint Presentations and review a hard copy with their prospective clients which they can also leave at the sellers home. (Not a bad idea for a high tech client as well.)

4) On a Website ‘ Using third party software from companies like www.articulate.com or www.pointcaste.com agents can convert their PowerPoint presentations into Flash presentations complete with narration. These files can then be stored on an agent’s website and be viewed by virtually any internet user with a high speed internet connection. Of course it may be wise to provide several teasers in the presentation to give them a reason to the presentation live.

5) On a Disk ‘ PowerPoint comes equipped with the ability to transfer your presentation, and narration to a CD. By using this feature you can hand out your listing presentation to virtually anyone you come into contact with. Superstars are even professionally labeling their presentation disks using relatively inexpensive software and hardware from companies like www.lightscribe.com.

Regardless of what presentation platform you adopt, whether it is a PowerPoint file, a professionally printed booklet, or even just a three ring binder the key to success is having a marriage of strong visual design with fantastic content. Just like a professional athlete you not only want to look good you have to be good.

Jim do you know of a good site where one can download free video clips that can be inserted into a powerpoint presentation?

I agree. PowerPoint is a fantastic tool. Most who use it though are seriously lacking in the ability to design a powerful presentation. This is not just in real estate…it’s all through corporate America. Sine the topic came up, I thought I’d share a blog that does an excellent job of teaching you how to build a powerful presentation (visually). Enjoy!

With regard to presenting a PowerPoint presentation, a very powerful method not listed is to actual deliver the show via online conferencing, with such software as GoToMeeting or Go2MyPC. This allows recruiting presentations and large presentations to be done via conference call while they can view the PowerPoint, eliminating travel and reducing expenses. In fact, we know many brokers who perform recruiting presentations in this manner to determine if the prospective agent is indeed tech savvy.
