9 Ways to Save Time When Working on Your Computer in ’09

I hate to waste time on anything…I am always looking for short cuts and tricks…so here are some that I use most often that I thought I would share with you!  (These are for PC users only)

  • I hate scrolling to the top or bottom of pages to find the navigation links that I need…so I use the END and HOME keys on my keyboard instead.
  • F5 will refresh your screen or browser window.
  • F6 will put your cursor in the address bar in IE or Firefox.
  • Do you use your right click on your mouse for Copy, Cut and Paste functions?  Sometimes it’s easier and faster to use CTRL + C (copy), CTRL + X (cut) and CTRL + V (paste) instead!  (and when working in certain canned real estate sites you run into trouble with pop up blockers, etc…and when your right click won’t work, the CTRL + short cuts usually will!
  • Instead of highlighting text and going to the edit menus to make it BOLD or ITALICS, simply use CTRL + B (bold) or CTRL + I (Italic).
  • To open your START menu just use CTRL + ESC.
  • ALT + TAB to switch between open programs.
  • ALT + F4 closes an open window.
  • And my FAVORITE that I use all the time…because I always seem to mess something up…is the UNDO shortcut…CTRL + Z (Z – as in your last resort!  LOL).

I hope these work for you as well as they do for me – I use them all the time!  Time is precious, time is money…so save where you can!

When you really have to be productive on a computer, you use keyboard shortcuts. I admit to cringing when watching someone use a computer and they use NO keyboard shortcuts – maybe I’ve been around too long…

I always use the (CTRL + Z ), It has saved me so much time when I am writing or editing. Everyone should know how to use these tips.

I use six out of the nine shortcuts you mentioned. Thank you for the three I don’t use (on a regular basis), but will use more often. These three are the following:

F5 Key: will refresh your screen or browser window

F6 Key: will put your cursor in the address bar in IE or Firefox (thank you X3 for this one)

Ctrl + Esc: will open your START menu (again, thank you X3 for this one)

As a side note: I don’t know if you have ever taken the software tests at temporary agencies, but I have, and I’ve noticed that sometimes if you use the shortcut keys on the test your answer is marked wrong. If you are given a second chance to answer the question I have forgotten how to answer the question without using the shortcut keys. And, the agency has no idea or don’t seem to care about that. Sorry, I just had to complain about temporary agencies–but, they are a necessary “evil.”

    Sincerely,

A temp. that gives 110 percent and receives 60 percent in salary.
