I’m a terrible salesman

I’m a terrible salesman

John’s a good real estate buddy of mine. Well, that’s not his real name. But, he is a good friend and he does exist. He asked if I could help him get a presentation up where customers and prospects can see it over the web. ‘Says he was willing to pay me $1000.

I said, “?!!” That’s all I could initially say because I was choking.

“Business must be good,” I finally coughed out.

I talked him out of it. Hence the title of this post.
But that’s not the main thing. What is is that I told him there are services out there — many of them free — that’ll do all the heavy-lifting for you. If all you want to do is get a PowerPoint-based presentation up on the web, the community at Slideshare will help you do that.

Here’s an excellent example below:
(Can’t see it? Click here for a similar example I posted on the BusinessCasual blog.)

Aside from the babble I typically see it used for in corporate presentations, conferences, creative-types, and so on, I’ve also seen a small but increasing number of real estate professionals use it for listing presentations, pre-listing presentations, buyer presentations, branding, and so on. An acquaintance of mine who’s a Home Staging Specialist even suggested it would be a great tool to use for getting work samples displayed on their web site or blog. You know, before/after shots. Stuff like that.

Slideshare’s been around for a year or two. (Not exactly sure about their “go live” date. If anyone knows for sure, please post a comment.) But, I still get questions like that of John’s every now and then so I thought it was time to create a short little screencast (a short online tutorial.) You can see that by clicking here or the image below.

That’s my way of “paying it forward.” Hope it helps.

Till next time.

Thinking of your success,
Mel
P.S. If you found the screencast helpful and can think of other small topics you think are helpful, let me know. I’ll either find them “in the wild” and post ‘em here or consider making a short one myself. I won’t even charge much. After all, I’m a terrible salesman. Wink

This is pretty cool. I just stumbled upon this about slideshare, and I will add it to my blog. I think it will help give it a little life.

Hi Dwayne. Yes, it’s been pretty helpful. Every few weeks I log in and see more and more content from foks in the RE industry. Interesting tidbit is that Slideshare also just recently implemented Private sharing. It used to be that if a user posted a slideshow, it was there for the public to see. Now, they have a feature that allows you to keep slideshows private. Helps in case you have something for just the team or the office staff you want to see.
