Zillow takes next important step
Zillow has announced that they have entered into a listing agreement that allows all Homes.com hand-entered property listings to be fed directly to Zillow.com at no additional cost to the agent or broker. The first listing Homes.com feed to Zillow was 105,000 active property listings.
This now allows Zillow to joins other syndicators, aggregators and portals such as Google Base, Yahoo Real Estate, Harmon Homes, Trulia, Propbot, Oodle and Vast as the latest listing distribution channel for Homes.com. Zillow is rapidly growing to become a force in the listing area –watch out Realtor.com.
What are your thoughts as to who will be the winners by the end of this year?

I found zillow to be excellent in helping me figure out my moving options. Read my blog post about my move and all the online stuff that helped me out… http://webpoet.wordpress.com/2008/05/03/moving-on/
The search landscape will continue to be very fragmented and I don’t think one clear winner will ever emerge as the one place everyone goes. The destination portal is changing now anyway. Websites are becoming more modular so it becomes more a question of what tools will emerge. Zillow and Trulia are certainly leading here.
What’s clear, is the consumers are slowly emerging as the winners here. We are seeing online distribution of listings evolve so that it is becoming easier and easier for listings to receive wider and wider exposure. The fastest change that has been taking place is the wider distribution real estate professionals are generating. What is also happening, albeit a slower pace, is the ability for a home owner to generate similar wide exposure for his/her home. Right now, a home owner can advertise their home on Google Base, Zillow, FSBO sites, Kijiji, Craigslist and access even more using solutions such as vFlyer. What changes will come about when home owners can easily generate broad advertising exposure by themselves, for free? How does the model change?
